2009 WLE Post # 10

Hours worked: 6 hrs.
Total Amount of Hours: 63 hrs.

For the week of 4/15 I could not go to my WLE becuase my mentor was out of town. Luckily the weekend before that Wednesday I went in on Saturday to help for an hour and on Sunday I got there at 10 am and left at 3 pm. I didn't do much I just helped out a little and displayed the Power Point for the Service.

Everything has been going good at my WLE. The one thing that I have really learned is that I have to find time to make up hours because I can't go every single Wednesday because either my schedule changes or my mentor's changes. I really enjoy helping out and getting to know people. I also like given the opportunity to participate in different activities.

2009 WLE Post #9

Hours worked: 9 hrs.
Total Amount of Hours: 56 hours.

On Saturday I went into my WLE because I was asked to go help the clean the Santuary because it was very dirty. On Saturday I got there at 10am and got out at 2 pm. All I pretty much did was clean and then we went to Costco to do an errand for the church. On Sunday I also went to the church to help out during the sermon. I got there at 9:30 am because I had to set up a few things to display the powerpoint and I left at 2:30 pm after the sermon and that everyone had left. This week I have also started to work on creating the actual website.

This week has been goin good with my WLE I'm almost done with my hours and I can really start focusing on the overall project a lot more. I have been challenged with managing my time because I usually go to my WLE on weekends when I'm suppose to do school work. I also go sometimes during the week and it's been hard this week because of the amount of school work I have to do. What has really consumed my time has been the reading but I'm trying to do as much as possible on my WLE project.

2009 WLE Post # 8

Hours Worked: 12 hrs.
Total Amount of Hours: 47 hours.

Last week I went to my WLE on Saturday because I was asked to go on a retreat. I was at the retreat from 9 to 4 and it was really fun. I went to the retreat to take pictures but I was also able to participate in the activities. I also went in on Sunday from 10 am to 3pm and what I did was help out during the sermon and after that I help out with some things that needed to be done in the church.

Last week was pretty laid back and I did not have very much to do. I really liked being able to participate in the activities that evryone else was doing in the retreat. I also like that I don't always have to go in on Wednesdays but can make up my time on the weekends. I've also been trying to make progress in my project.

2009 WLE Post #7

Hours worked: 7
Total amount of Hours: 35

Yesterday I did not physically go to my WLE but I did do work from my home. I spent the time working hard and using my time effectively. I started working at 9 am and finished at 4 pm. The things that I did was type up a bunch of information that I'm going to need in the future.

The progress on my project was not the best but I'm getting more done and just looking for ways to do the website without having to use a school computer. Luckily I talked to Araceli who did a website last year and asked how she did hers and she gave me a website that allows people to make their own website for free. I visited the website and started to look for the one that I felt would be the best for the church but there were a few so I have to think about it. I also typed up a lot of information that I'm going to be using on the website to make it simpler to transfer on to the webpage. So this week was pretty easy but time consuming because I had to do a lot of typing.

2009 WLE Post #6

Hours/day: 3.5
Total Amount of Hours: 29 Hours
I was not able to go to my WLE on Monday because it is my mentor's day off. Luckily I did a lot of hours on Wednesday from last week and I also went in to help a little on Sunday's service. On Sunday I help with some tech stuff. I was there from 10 am to 1:30 pm. I did not do much I just displayed a power point presentation and did a few adjustments to it because some things were missing. That's all I did that day.

Displaying a power point was not new to me because of done it a bunch of times. I really liked displaying it because it was pretty fun and the only hard thing is that you really have to pay attention to what people are saying in order to know exactly when to change the slide. I learned that no matter how hard you try and if you have not given it a run through before you're going to mess up even a little. I plan on continuing to help in any way possible and that way I will benefit from every thing that I'm doing because I get more knowledge and experience.

WLE 2009 Post#5

On Wednesday, March 11 I got to my WLE at 9:30 in the morning and got out at 9 pm. Now I have a total of 25 hours and 30 minutes. I didn't do very much, but I did do some very productive things. My mentor was very busy so she was in and out of the office. When she was gone I would have to answer phone calls. I also look at a website that my mentor really likes and would like for me to get some ideas from. I also gathered information to start working on the website that will be my final product. I also participated on two meetings and participated in another program for kids to be active.

What I'm experiencing is new because I had never worked in an office before and it's actually interesting to work in one. It seems like I learn something new a lot of the time. This week I had a chance to answer phones and I noticed that I had to answer it in a very polite and professional way instead of the way I ususally pick up my cell phone or house phone. I also learned that in meetings you have to be patient and hear everything that others our saying and if you are going to say something you really have to think it out before saying it. I also learned that this church is willing to have activities for the community children to be healthy and active. I also learned that the program that is trying to keep children active needs more kids of any age to participate or at least go and help out every now and again.

2009 WLE Post #4

Worked: 8 hours
Total: 14 hours
This week I went to my internship in the afternoon because the Pastor's office was getting painted. I got there at 12:30pm hoping that the office was painted so that I could help out with other things. Unfortunately when I got there the office was still not completely painted. So I stayed there for two hours helping move things around and put things where they are suppose to go. Luckily on Saturday last week I was asked to go to the retreat that they were having to take pictures so that we can use them for other things that will be happening in the church. When I went on Staurday there were not very many people helping out so I started helping set up tables, chairs, food, and drinks as well. Then I took pictures of the participants and the activities that they were doing. I spent six hours helping out that day.

Working in an office is very different to working in activity room or in a different place that isn't as busy. There's a lot of people coming in and out trying to talk to the Pastor. It's also pretty fun because I get to know people and I'm allowed to do more things than in last year's WLE. What suprises me is that I'm being able to do many things instead of only doing one thing. I will start to come up with ideas for the website I will be doing and get them ready to show my mentor.

2009 WLE Post #3

On my first day of my WLE I did 5 hours and 10 minutes. I started at 12:20 and finished at 5:30. On the first day I didn't do very much. I had my contract filled out, and ran some errands with the Pastor for a retreat that they will have on Friday and Saturday for couples. We also went out to eat and I was shown an example of a website that the Pastor likes and would like to have hers look similar to. After that she asked me to help her bring some boxes down from a cabinet and sort out what was in it. My first impression is that it's going to be pretty fun working there. I also like that I'm going to be doing a website as my project because I don't have very much experience with it and I like that I was given the possibility to work from school or my house in order to do certain tasks because their computers do not have programs to make a website. I think that my experience there will be very good because I will be allowed to do many things. I think that I will also do some type of video recording that the Pastor wants to make for the Church.

2009 WLE Post#2

The project that I'm planning to have by the end of the WLE is a website for the Church. What I plan to gain from this experience is increase my abilities of time management, organizational skills, more patience because I know that I will get frustrated in doing websites, and I want to increase my skills in making websites because my knowledge in making them are very little.

The way I will include those skills are that I'm only going to have a certain amount of time to make the website and I will have to be very organized and have all the materials better before starting. I will also have to manage my time because I won't be able to put it off and do it in the last minute because it will look very poor. I will also have to be patient because I have very little experience with Dream Weaver and no experience with Iweb.

2009 WLE Post #1

My WLE is on the corner of 23 & Capp Street. My mentor is named Carmen Rosales, she is a Pastor. I'm not very sure of what my tasks will be yet, but I think that I will be doing organizational work. As a project I will challenge myself to make a website for the congregation.

The way that I got my internship was because my mom started to go to that church not so long ago and I have accompanied her a few times. Then I asked my mom to ask if the Pastor could use my help on anything and I talked to her personally and she said that I could go help her out. Since she has been wanting to make a website I told her that I could make that as my project for the WLE.
